Jetaway's post, which I read immediately after sending mine, helps to make my
point (and possibly to create confusion, since his post is not one of the posts
I was responding to): the plattitude that violence in the home exceeds violence
elsewhere can become blinding to subtleties (as any plattitude can become).
Therefore, let's dump the plattitudes, on which sociology has come to be
extraordinarily dependent ("blaming the victim", etc., etc.), and actually
endeavor to think things through, in all of their subtlety.
