To: Lorna Lueker I, too, agree that we should not be slaves to the "rankings". However, one of my earlier points was missed. Rankings are a fact of life, and although they may have no meaning to us individually (my program, unfortunately, scored a 2 out of 5 in USN&WR's rankings), they do play a part in how money and other social rewards are distributed. I believe that the organizations doing the rankings are generally not displaying their criteria, and when they do their methodologies are highly questionable. The original intention of this discussion string was to (I believe) find a way to objectively determine the right program for each individual. What would you suggest to someone who is looking for a grad dept. in any field? ovenden@uhunix.uhcc.hawaii.edu
