To: socgrad@ucsd.edu There has been a lot of bickering and belittling on SOCGRAD of late. This has generally recieved harsh criticism (sometimes equally as bitter as the first). Several people have sent messages stating that "this or that" subject should not be allowed on SOCGRAD (e.g. discussions about rating systems, positivism, or even general ways of expression). My *opinion* follows: name calling should be done privately not publicly (i.e., send mail directly to that person if you want to insult him or her) and let discusion be an informed debate. Allow freedom of expression and if you don't like something, count to ten and don't yell "there ought to be a law..." Basically, take people with a grain of salt. Also, for every two "unsub" letters I see, I get one "send to listserve" letter. Noise on noise.... Robert Gossweiler U of DE
