I can't remenber how the two became intermingled but want to suggest that we think about the issue of "mentoring" as the topic of a more formal disussion. In the March 10, 1993 issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education, there is an Opinion article written by Bernice Sandler, a senior associate with the Center for Women Policy Studies and editor of a newsletter "About Women on Campus." The title of her Opinion article is "Women as Mentors: Myths and Commandments." Her article is only one printed page of text and includes some admonishments that may be of some value to us all. Interested? If so, let's set a date, say April 8th to begin our discussion of Sandler's article with a general understanding that the discussion can include more than a simple "reaction" to her opinions. What do you think? P.S. Where's the dessert food? I brought sliced mangos and kiwi fruit for the virtual meal but it was all eaten before I got to that "station" on the table. Anyone planning to bring any sweets to the meal?
