Subject: Crisis in Rwanda-Burundi

I am not a specialist in African matters, but when the Rwanda massacres
occurred in 1994 I tried to do some background reading on it.  The best
historical study I found was that of Catherine Newbury, 1988, The Cohesion
of Oppression:Clientship and Ethnicity in Rwanda, 1869-1960, NY: Columbia
University Press.  Mind you, this is not for those who want a "quickie"
backgrounder on that area, but if you want a serious scholarly treatment,
this is a good one.
