Some essential references in the overlapping areas of identity
politics/new social movements/postmodernism:
 
Geras, Norman, Post-Marxism.  New Left Review 163 (May-June, 1987),
40-82.  This is a critique of Laclau and Mouffe.  They reply in NLR
166, Nov-Dec. 1987, and he responds in NLR 169, but his initial
article is the important one.
 
Harvey, David, Class Relations, Social Justice and the Politics of
Difference.  I acquired this as a xerox; it is evidently from an
edited book whose title and author I don't know (if anyone can tell
me, please do).
