Currently Lecturer in Sociology (from July 1993:' Previously, 
Assistant Professor of Asian Studies, Univ. of Hawaii (1989-93); 
Research interests: world-systems analysis, sociology of colonialism, 
historical sociology; editor, Pacific-Asia and the Future of the 
World-System (Westport, CT: Greenwood Press, 1993).  Current 
projects: excavating the future of area studies in a post-American 
world, myth of an impending Pacific century, rethinking 18th century 
Indian history
