Since I started the list in July, 1994, membership has been increasing. We are now 117 - but we do not talk. We are silent. Why? Many, like myself, are probably teaching outside the population field or too busy to write. But you are interested enough so you stay, perhaps waiting for others to start a conversation. I am writing today to invite those of you who are members of PPN and the American Sociological Association to come -- if you intend to attend the meeting -- to a roundtable I have reserved for us at the Roundtables Session of the Marxist Sociology Section. We are going to have only one hour, so there will be no time for lengthy presentations. My goal in organizing the roundtable is to create the conditions for getting acquainted, exchanging ideas about how we understand the notion of "progressive population studies", and figuring out how best to use this forum. I would encourage those of you who are interested in participating to let me know in advance; if you wish to give a brief presentation to open up the discussion, and would like to be listed in the program, let me know. In fact, we can use that hour to get acquainted and set up the time for a lenghtier meeting where we can present papers, exchange ideas and develop a plan to make PPN less "virtual" than at the present time. :-) I look forward to your comments and suggestions. cordially, Martha _____________________________________ Martha E.
