I know only of models to explain the patient-practioner relationship. The nurses I studied for my doctoral research perform more emotional labor with families than they do with patients. This represents a significant amount of work for them but I do not believe I can simply "transplant'" theories of the patient-practitioner relationship on to this phenomena since the nurses consider the families to be extra, almost secondary work for them. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. Cindy Merkel
