To expand knowledge in all the social sciences on a broad range of issues related to poverty and public policy. To encourage interdisciplinary research through course work, research and faculty interaction. Postdoctoral Fellowship Fellows will participate in the year-long seminar on Poverty, the Underclass and Public Policy under the direction of Sheldon Danziger, Professor of Social Work and Public Policy, and Mary Corcoran, Professor of Political Science, Public Policy and Social Work. During this tenure, fellows will conduct their own research. Fellows will receive stipends of $37,000 per calendar year, beginning as early as July 1, 1998, but no later than September 1, 1998. Applicants must have completed their Ph.D. by August 1, 1998. Sponsorship Fellowships are sponsored by the University of Michigans Research and Training Program on Poverty, the Underclass and Public Policy. Funds are provided by the Ford Foundation. Priority will be given to proposals that would benefit from resources available at the University of Michigan and from interaction with affiliated faculty. Selection Procedures Preference will be given to scholars who are engaged in poverty research and who received the Ph.D. after 1992. Applicants must be American citizens and members of a minority group. All proposals will be reviewed by a selection committee composed of nationally recognized scholars.
