Columbus' arrival in the Americas symbolised the beginning of the slave trade, which brought misery to Africa and the Americas and profit to Britain. The 500 years of Resistance Campaign seeks to bring together Caribbean and Latin American groups in Britain for a year-long campaign of activities, supporting parallel work being done by indigenous and other groups in the Western hemisphere. 500 Years of Resistance Campaign, Latin American House, Kingsgate Place, London NW6 4TA (071 372 7608). **************************************Reprinted from Peace News, December 1991. It had contemporary and (alas) ongoing impacts in a much wider realm -- which ought to still be of concern. Consider: Australia and the suppression of the rights of the Original Australians, India and the loss of economic and political independence in a process which may yet be ongoing, and (AND!!) almost every other region of the globe (while my personal interests cluster in these two!).
