You are receiving this letter because you recently wrote to the 
Maoist Internationalist Movement (MIM) for a subscription to MIM 
Notes. MIM Notes is free to all prisoners, and you should be 
receiving your first issues soon if you have not already. We 
publish MIM Notes as part of an overall strategy to build public 
opinion against U$ imperialism. Our newspaper is an independent 
institution publishing from the point of view of the oppressed. 
Prisoners are among the largest group of contributors to and 
readers of MIM Notes.

MIM leads a prisoner anti-imperialist organization called "United 
Struggle from Within" (USW). USW works in cooperation with the 
Revolutionary Anti-Imperialist League (RAIL), a MIM-led anti-
imperialist mass organization on the outside. Working with USW is 
something to think about if you are interested in activism 
exposing the Amerikan prison system and in organizing as part of a 
general anti-imperialist movement. For example, MIM and RAIL work 
on an ongoing Under Lock & Key campaign devoting each month to 
distinct prison issues -- such as lack of education and health 
care, prisoner "speech" restrictions and censorship, prisoner 
labor, and the oppressed nation composition of the prison 
population in Amerika. RAIL organizes people through public events 
and discussions, flyers and publications about imperialism in 
general and the prisons in particular. USW should take a similar 
role in educating people about imperialism while organizing 
against repression in the prison system.

Your subscription is free because MIM Notes, in particular the 
Under Lock & Key section, is a central organizing tool for this 
work. MIM and RAIL also have a Serve the People Free Books for 
Prisoners Program to support prisoner activism. Under this 
program, we send books and other literature to active prisoners 
working on prisoner study groups, writing articles, and otherwise 
building the movement within prisons. Write to the above address

Some administrative details

Correspondence. Please address all correspondence to the address 
above. We will see that your mail gets to the right people from 
here.

Subscriptions. We are writing to you because you have just 
subscribed. To keep your subscription coming, you need to write to 
us again 30 days after you sent your first letter, and then at 
least once every 90 days after that. Because of the overwhelming 
amount of censorship in prisons, and the rate at which your 
captors move you around, we need to know that you are still in the 
same place and still receiving your papers.

Releases. To keep working with comrades after you get out of 
prison, MIM needs to know if you are looking at a release date any 
time in the next two years. Please let us know as soon as you have 
a possible release scheduled.

Fundraising and distribution. It takes money and other resources 
to publish and distribute a newspaper. MIM Notes is free to 
prisoners, but we ask for cash donations when possible (stamps are 
cash to us). We recognize that many prisoners are unable to send 
payment of any kind. Help us out by recruiting outside sources of 
funding, or organizing people on the outside to become subscribers 
or local distributors of MIM Notes.
