Message-ID: <1993Jan9.003148.5327@mont.cs.missouri.edu> Followup-To: alt.activism.d Originator: daemon@pencil.cs.missouri.edu Sender: news@mont.cs.missouri.edu Nntp-Posting-Host: pencil.cs.missouri.edu Organization: ? Date: Sat, 9 Jan 1993 00:31:48 GMT Approved: map@pencil.cs.missouri.edu Lines: 54 Re: Discontinuation of MIM on misc.activism.progressive(MAP) & ACTIV-L After discussing the matter, we have decided to no longer forward the "MIM" ("Maoist International Movement") posts (although continuing some of the other New York Transfer Service ("nyxfer") posts) on the grounds that, in any meaningful sense of the word, MIM and the Shining Path terrorists they support are not "progressive" and hence do not belong in misc.activism.progressive (LaRouche too claimed to be a "progressive" at one time). The recent 3-part "The Reactionary Shining Path" posts detailing the murderous campaign of Peru's Maoist guerrillas against community; labor; women's movement; and other demoratic progressive grassroots organizations and leaders speaks loudly and clearly on this matter, and the so-called left/progressive "credentials" of the Shining Path / Sendero Lumenoso / Peru Co / Peru Communist Party terrorists. We will shortly post also Radio Havana's condemnation of Sendero alonside its deathsquad moral equivalent, the Peruvian army. In fact, just yesterday (1/8) Americas Watch released a report on the deliberate violence against women employed as a *strategy* by both the Peruvian army (rape as a tactical weapon of war) and the reactionary Sendero/Shining Path (deliberate targeting of women for murder in order to terrorize communities and prevent struggles against the Peruvian dictatorship independent of Sendero Maoist dogma and, crucially, Sendero control). While misc.activism.progressive (MAP) has tolerated and will continue to tolerate analysis from various sources/perspective with which we do not always agree, "MIM" is has been a steadfast apologist for the reactionary Shinining Path thugs (with its "the SCIENCE of Maoism" [emphasis added], "Gonzalo-thought" etc), and is about as "progressive" as Ronald Reagan was for "freedom" and "democracy" -- or about as much as the former German Democratic Republic (East Germany) was "democratic" -- or "socialist" -- it was neither. "MIM" can continue their posts on the unmoderated alt.activism and other newsgroups with far larger audience, of course, just as we support freedom of speech on the Net and elsewhere for others with whom we passionately disagree, but we will no longer sanction its reactionary views under the "progressive" umbrella of MAP/ACTIV-L, and all future submissions from MIM will not be accepted.
