GAY LESBIAN UNIVERSITY K N O W L E D G E = E M P O W E R M E N T GLU Extension Course News "Creating & Maintaining GLUs" REGISTERING The back page of each GLU catalog has the form for both the instructors and students registration. After the class is published in the catalog and students register, this student information, name and phone number, is passed on to the teacher. In fact the day they register for the class the teacher is called on the phone. The facilitator is then requested to contact the student, when they can,and tell the student any information like the location of the class etc. Instructors The GLU catalog is self explanatory on how the prospective teacher can get a class published in the catalog. Often times people will need to call and get additional information. This is usually a very simple process of turning them on to the upbeat idea of teaching. Often times there is a need to supply a list of low or no cost places that people can use to do their instructing. GLU can more often then not answer most questions over the phone. It has been found that when people require a "get together" to carry on some sort of discussion about GLU stuff that the caller is usually not serious. Sounds odd but that is GLU/Sea experience to date. Names and phone numbers of the instructors are not published in the schedule. Names can be published if the instructor wishes. When students and others call about the class for general information GLU can either hand out the instructors phone number or not. If the teacher decides not to have their number public GLU will take the number of the student and pass that on to the teacher and they can then call the person that needs additional information. Students The students will often times fill in the form correctly by following the instructions provided with the form. There are those that can not understand the process. They will call for further details. Funny they are usually not serious either. Often times the students will wait until the day of the class to register for a class. This can be difficult situation. Each person offering classes through GLU must be asked in advance how they want to deal with this. Obviously if the class is full the student can be put on a waiting list if the instructor is offering the class again. In most cases the instructor can accept the folks that want to show up at the last minute. Of course GLU might not get its registration fee. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Tom Hicks tomh@halcyon.com GLU - Gay Lesbian University/Seattle anonymous ftp halcyon.com /pub/GLU POB 20771 Seattle,WA 98102 206-323-7483 F I G H T B A C K W I T H T E C H N O L O G Y ----------------------------------------------------------------
