GAY LESBIAN UNIVERSITY K N O W L E D G E = E M P O W E R M E N T GLU Extension Course News "Creating & Maintaining GLUs" BBS Messaging Uploading GLU information This could be a great way to get a lot of information out to the local GLTB etc populations. In Seattle it does not work very well becuase the population that uses the local GLTB boards are not interested in this sort of activity. The boards in Seattle are mostly interested in sex stuff. Don't get me wrong about sex and all. But the is a time and a place for everthing. :-) GLU Seattle does still upload any all information for those that are on the boards to see. The response is very low. But it is cheap or free advertising and it does get GLU out into the public view. Most of the BBSs that GLBT people frequent in Seattle have many different rooms available for the posting of messages for the public to read. Events, classes etc can all fit into the forums in one way or the other. Possibly in your location you might find a BBS that would be interested in providing a forum on the BBS for the GLU catalog and other postings. GLU was working with one board eager to provide the space to GLU.Most of the boards in Seattle use a particular type of BBS that is extremely difficult to upload information to from my computer. GLU BBS - GLAIDS (With the establishment of the ftp site and the lack of big time cash GLU is holding back on the hookup idea. Now if anyone out there is about to check out to the ozone, die you can always will you worldly possesions to GLU. We are not proud.) GLU Seattle is currently in the process of creating a simple one line BBS called GLAIDS - Gay Lesbian AIDS. GLAIDS will space for librarys of GLU and other GLBT information that is found on the internet and other locations. Action alerts and other great stuff that can be put into libraries for the public to read. The GLU BBS will allow those into computers to be able todownload the course catalog and register as students and as instructors. GLAIDS operates off a NeXT Turbo Workstation with 16MB RAM 400+ HD. The future for GLAIDS is to hook directly up to the larger Nets, Internet etc. This will open the door for the GLBT community in the Seattle area to email etc. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Tom Hicks tomh@halcyon.com GLU - Gay Lesbian University/Seattle anonymous ftp halcyon.com /pub/GLU POB 20771 Seattle,WA 98102 206-323-7483 F I G H T B A C K W I T H T E C H N O L O G Y ----------------------------------------------------------------
