GAY LESBIAN UNIVERSITY K N O W L E D G E = E M P O W E R M E N T GLU Extension Course News "Creating & Maintaining GLUs" WHO IS THE COURSE FOR The extension course "Creating & Maintaining GLUs has been created for a variety of people. The main level of approach is from scratch. It is from the ground up for the type of person that may not have all the skill yet is eager and willing to learn. The bottom line approach to GLU/Seattle operation is operating GLU as a business even though GLU/Seattle is a registered non profit in the State of Washington. Most of the skill used and needed to operate a small business are the same that are needed to make your project as a successful operation. GLU/Seattle is operated by one person. It took a great of time to set GLU/Seattle up. But this extension course should help your attempt in starting a GLU by cutting that time way down. The number of hours that are required fir normal GLU maintenance are not many. I would say that under 7 hours a week and a GLU would be just fine. Types of people that would best be suited to GLU operations would be those that are creative, responsible, honest, hardworking etc etc. Some experience in self employment - business operations and or activism are not required but are desirable qualities. People that are not overly busy and are looking for an interesting way to contribute to their LGBTetc communities will find GLU type of operations very interesting and rewarding to say the least. If a person has to or chooses to work on a GLU project alone that is fine. If a person wants to work with a larger group that is fine. If you or your group chooses to subscribe to the ongoing extension course approach, GLU/Seattle ask that each group be represented by one person that takes this extension course. For instance a organization might like to take on the project of GLU. But GLU/Seattle would prefer to deal with only one representative, student, at a time. In some cases there might be others from your same area that are in contact with GLU/Seattle regarding the creation of a GLU in your area. In this case both parties can subscribe to the course. But it is strongly suggested that all parties located nearby work together in some way to avoid duplication etc. It is ultimately up to yourself. You are your own master and slave. All your decisions are your own. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Tom Hicks tomh@halcyon.com GLU - Gay Lesbian University/Seattle anonymous ftp halcyon.com /pub/GLU POB 20771 Seattle,WA 98102 206-323-7483 F I G H T B A C K W I T H T E C H N O L O G Y ----------------------------------------------------------------
