GAY LESBIAN UNIVERSITY K N O W L E D G E = E M P O W E R M E N T GLU Extension Course News "Creating & Maintaining GLUs" Public Relations Public relations is possibly the most important aspect of GLU health, growth, survival, support. In all the sections mentioned the PR is really got to be a top priority. Here is a short list of things that need to be addressed when thinking of PR. This is not written in stone and probably will change over time. Press releases Contacting groups/organizations Speaking to groups/organizations General advertising Attending events Pride rallys Parades Political events Social Fairs GLU type of projects are competing with a wide variety of things out there in reality. Some of the competition is on a budget scale that GLU concepts could never compete with. So it takes extra effort to get the GLU information out there above the rest so that others can see it. The large part of this can be viewed as selling. Marketing GLU concepts is a lot like selling most any product. Some how the public needs to be informed that GLU exists in your area. Making contacts with the people that are active in organizations in your area is very important. They will be able to assist GLU by passing the information along to there membership. You can also "invite" yourself to speak, do a presentation for their organization. You might be surprised at the amount of positive responses that you will receive. You will also find a great deal of support and good ideas to add to the GLU concepts. These are good out reach points to get other people actually involved in teaching being students and sharing some of the work load that GLU can create.
