GAY LESBIAN UNIVERSITY K N O W L E D G E = E M P O W E R M E N T B E D B I G E M A I L D I R E C T O R Y of Who's who of LGBTetc Activists Lesbian-Gay- Bisexual-Transgender-AIDS-& Friends People, Places & Things AVAILABLE VIA ANONYMOUS FTP HALCYON.COM pub/GLU/BEDs Introduction GLU - Gay Lesbian University/Seattle is in the process of creating a ongoing directory, of LGBTect, activists. The directory is called "BED" short for Big Email Directory. BED has been created as a collection of email addresses and more not unlike a phone book but for email addresses of activists and organizations. The directory will be divided into sections of Individuals, Organizations, Miscellaneous. Purpose BED is intended to be a "straight" forward approach of how to locate an email addresses of a person, place or thing in the LGBTetc activist communities and lessen the need for expensive and energy intensive snail mailings via the US Post office etc. Reason The point of BED is,"as the founder I can say that I am tired of paying out large sums of time and money to make mailings to different groups via the US post office. Mailings should be able to be uploaded to organizations or those that represent a group. This information can then be passed on to the group like any ordinary hardcopy mail would be. Pipe Dream Relationships are as good as the communication. Are we communicating? NOT! LGBTetc peoples need a world wide network of email communication. The right wing has been using this technology from the beginning. It is about time that our people seize technology and fight back with the technology. This is a first step tip of the iceberg attempt to do just that. Any LGBTetc person should be able to access information via email. Your local groups, organizations, businesses need to be taught about the benefits of email etc. This medium, email is here for the taking. We as LGBTetc people activists need to go into our communities and wake the others up. U S E O R L O S E A Public Television program, Nova, "The right to privacy" is great to watch for any doubting Thomas of the right wings use of this type of technology. Then reflect on how many LGBTetc people are using the technology at your finger tips at this very moment. Think of the possibility of getting ALL LGBTetc peoples educated and using this form of communication. It has mind boggling possibilities. Part of the solution. This list is intended to offer a way for upgrading LGBTetc networking possibilities. Imagine having email addresses to contacts of all your favorite organizations at your finger tips. Like who the hell is managing the email for Queer Nation Seattle? BED will hopefully help those in sincere need of receiving and sending quality information a new step in the right direction. Who is BED for? The tired the lame? NOT! Groups and their representatives. Interested individuals. Activists will find this a quick and painless way to get important data out to those you or your group would like to be able to contact. Those that wish, can get the list via ftp.People that can not ftp will still be able to get via email. What is an activist? If you call yourself an activist, your are an activist. Webster says: ac·tiv·ism \'ak-ti-,viz-em\ n (1915) :a doctrine or practice that emphasizes direct vigorous action (as a mass demonstration) in support of or opposition to one side of a controversial issue. ----------------- BED INFORMATION ----------------- A.)
