The Moi people of West Papua, numbering almost four thousand, line on the extreme wester tip of the island, on the "beak" of the so- called "Bird's Head" Peninsula, in the environs of the town of Sorong. The neo colonialist military government of Indonesia has awarded PT Intimpura a vast 339,000 hectare logging concession in the heart of Moi ancestral land. We demand that the Indonesian government: -- respect the traditional land ownership of the Moi people, namely their legitimate indigenous rights based on their Melanesian culture and concept towards nature; -- stop immediately all logging activities in the Moi ancestral homeland; -- compensate all damage to the people and its forest, to be paid immediately, based on the demands of the people themselves; -- stop further exploitation of all forests in West Papua without the full and free consent of the indigenous people affected; -- respect the right to self-determination of all the indigenous peoples of West Papua; We, the indigenous/tribal peoples of the tropical forests, through our Charter, demand that the Indonesian government respect the rights of all indigenous/tribal people communities in Indonesia as well as in West Papua.
