Dear Sir or Madam:

     I represent Religious Technology Center ("RTC"), the owner
of the confidential Advanced Technology of the religion of
Scientology, and the holder of exclusive rights under the
copyrights applicable to the Advanced Technology materials. 

     We have been informed that someone has downloaded to your
site several files containing copyrighted, unpublished materials. 
These files were transferred without the authorization of our
client, which, of course, would not have given such authorization
had it been requested.  They can be found at
GOPHER://gopher.etext.org:70/11/zines/scamizdat in the Gopher
menu with the following names:  "Scamizdat 0," "Scamizdat 3,"
"Scamizdat 4," "Scamizdat 7," "Scamizdat 8" and "Scamizdat 9." 
The copying of these materials on this FTP site, violates my
client's legal rights in that it is the unauthorized making of
electronic copies of the copyrighted material and the
unauthorized disclosure of trade secrets materials.

     These actions constitute violations of the United States
Copyright laws entitling my client to damages and injunction.

     We understand that the rules of most systems prohibit
subscribers from posting, downloading or distributing copyrighted
materials.  We are also informed that the usual practice of
systems operators in dealing with violations of their system
rules is to first warn subscribers when complaints of wrongdoing
are received, and then cancel the account if the subscriber
continues his or her wrongdoing.  

     I also want to inform you that in the court case Religious
Technology Center v. Arnaldo Pagliarini Lerma, which was filed in
the United States Eastern District Court of Virginia, a Temporary
Restraining Order has been granted which reads as follows:

          Defendants Arnaldo Pagliarini Lerma and Digital
     Gateway Systems, their agents, servants, and employees,
     all persons acting or purporting to act under their
     authority, direction, or control, and all persons
     acting in concert or in participation with any of them
     who receive notice of this Order, shall be and are
     restrained and enjoined:

          1.   From all unauthorized copying, disclosing,
     using, displaying or reproducing, or causing to be
     copied, disclosed, used, displayed or reproduced, any
     of the copyrighted, unpublished confidential works of
     L. Ron Hubbard, or any portion of said works,
     including, but not limited to, those identified in
     Exhibit A to the Complaint, or any other work that is
     part of the Advanced Technology, and in particular from
     copying any of those works into any computer data base,
     information service, storage facility, archives, or
     other computerized network or facility;

     We request an immediate confirmation that the materials have
been removed.  We would much prefer to resolve this matter with
you amicably if you are willing to do so.
