Welcome to... _____________________________________ | \ | S T R A N G E W A Y S > |____________________________________/ Moderne Forum For Morrissey And The Smiths Volume Two Issue Issue Thirteen Hello subscribers, this is Michael again. Please send all posts and requests for subscription to: gt7274c@prism.gatech.edu I am sorry for the brevity of this issue and the great span of time which elapsed between now and the previous issue, but there simply haven't been enough posts. I urge all subscribers to please post, 'Strangeways' is directly dependant upon your ideas, inquiries, opinions and news. I will be putting together a subscribers poll and emailing it out soon, but let me know in the next few days or so what you want to be polled on. And, enjoy! :) From: strangeways here we come Subject: the new book A book entitled "Morrissey and Marr:the severed alliance" has just been released here in Ireland. The author is Johnny Rogan,he did a book on Van Morrisson a few years back.Anyway, the book contains very little photos and 350 pages of text.Morrissey has said about the book:"they say that some books are unputdownable, well this one is unpickupable.I would rather lose the use of both my legs than read this book, and I hope that rogan ends his days someday soon in a messy pileup on the M2" so Morrissey hates the book and according to rogan moz hasent even read it. He seems to think that Moz is considering writing an autobiography and thats why he is so against the book. The book includes details of morrisseys origin, how he got his name(his dad had 2 brothers and they died, and their names were steven and patrick, natch),his life outside the Smiths(the nosebleeds etc), johnny marr's career, etc etc. thats all I know about the book because I didnt think it was worth the 17 pounds they were asking for it in the stores eamon From: strangeways here we come Subject: bootleg vinyl A 1982 bootleg-7"-vinyl release contained a live recording of a song called "What do you see in him?".This is the same as 'Wonderful woman',but with different lyrics.Quality isn't very good. eamon From: Simon Hughes Subject: Strangeways: Alternative `Wonderful Woman' Nicole wrote >The first couple of tracks are from the smiths third live apperance, >it does include Jeane, but also a track called BEAUTIFUL WOMAN. i've >haven't heard wonderful woman in a long time- but it sounds the same , >but i think that the words are different, but i'm not sure. does >anyone know something about this track ????? I have a bootleg tape of a July 83 gig at the Manchester Hacienda which includes a version of `Wonderful Woman' with different words. The main vocal refrain is `What does she see in him' which is also claimed to be the title (though bootleggers often get this sort of info. wrong!). I think it's just an alternative earlier version of the song. Simon ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Simon Hughes, Dept. of Computing, Imperial College. Email: sph@doc.ic.ac.uk From: Stephen Landamore Subject: Smiths discog in PostScript Good evening to you, this is actually the first article I've submitted to strangeways. It is the smiths discography in luverly PostScript (tm), I have essentially taken the discog from quartz.rutgers.edu and added a few extra bits and bobs what I have picked up, and put it into a nice little package... feel free to stick it on quartz.rutgers.edu. On a side note, I picked up "Morrissey: Posing in Paris" bootleg a few weeks ago, and can thoroughly recommend it. ----------< CUT HERE >---------- the postscript has been extracted and is called discography.ps.Z on quartz.rutgers.edu --pirmann@quartz.rutgers.edu ----------< CUT HERE >---------- That's all for now folks, Stephen (abyt of a PostScript guru *on the sly*) (*grin*! ;-) Stephen Landamore | %! esurw@csv.warwick.ac.uk | usertime srand statusdict begin University of Warwick | 0 rand setpassword pop England CV4 7AL | end From: gt7274c@prism.gatech.edu (Pi) Subject: Strange News Hello all, the new single "We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful" is now out on UK CD, and it sounds GREAT! Its 2:29 of pounding Morrissey, bold and humorous. It should get its share of radio play, it is a bit harder than any- thing from 'Kill Uncle'. The 3 live b-sides are from the Oct 4 Hammersmith concert: "Suedehead", "I've Changed My Plea To Guilty", and "Alsatian Cousin". The US CD will have another live track, possibly "Mute Witness" or "Pregnant For The Last Time". According to a spokesperson at Sire Records, these are the tentative release dates for Morrissey items: "We Hate It..." 12" US May 12 "Live In Dallas" video May 28 "Your Arsenal" LP UK July 22 "Your Arsenal" LP US August 24 I can only hope that Sire and EMI coordiante the LP release, or we in the colonies will have to order the CD early from England! :) Morrissey filmed a promo video for the new single back in March, hopefully it will be seen on tv soon. And about tour dates - none are being announced other than the Glastonbury Festival in England in June, but through periodic contact with Sire hopefully we will find them out soon. Take care, and I hope to see you post soon. :) Michael "If we could destroy them, you bet your life we will destroy them"
