Michigan Mosh '95, Sparta H.S., Sparta, MI May 28-29 I had the most awesome time in Sparta this year! 3 rolls of film, new friends, 2 new staff members for SOA (and one of them is a 34-year old CPA!).. capsulized viewpoints of the bands (full version to appear in the next SOA - HA now you will have to order one!): Quality Scrub - not my thing CRASHDOG - never could get into them, but they did have one cool anti-G.M.A. song CEPHAS - they were ok, good stage presence CRIMSON GLOW - disappointed.. hoping for newer, faster and heavier tunes.. guitarist Jimy Magrini has awesome stage presence, and so does Les the "cute chick" bassist.. AETURNUS - *Wow!* They were nice, heavy, the tunes were very melodic but brutally varied, and perfect stage presence.. ONE BAD APPLE - boring ENGINEERING MORONS - well, punk never appeals to me but freaky stage presence does, stuffed toys, silly string and all.. CRIMSON THORN - good three-piece (was 4).. heavier than their album, which is a good thing.. TOURNIQUET - professional but a bit corny (jumping up & down and Ted's name on the bass drum heads?).. at least they didn't play anything off "Carry The Wounded" (thank goodness!).. STRONGARM - good for what they play (hardcore).. wild stage presence.. EXTERNAL DECEASE - *Wow!* Heavy, tight and very showy on stage, hair and all! Was most impressed with their sincerety and their strong desire to do the band thing solely for the Lord.. BONES OF ADAM - they were ok.. loved lead singer's saying, "Pop a Squat" (meaning "sit down").. FOUR LIVING CREATURES - weird show (bass player dyed himself green).. nice touch with female bongo player.. ral .. I mean real weird "syncopation Virginia style", whatever that means.. stage presence was excellent with gothic elements in music (like The Cult).. INFINITIA - impressed me a lot! Quite good hardcore mixed with death and speed.. Johnny Q. Public - didn't see them.. was interviewing bands.. JESUS FREAKS - Perfect climax! Pantera/Carcass mix in music with heavy intensity and tightness! My biggest disappointments: not getting to see BREATH OF LIFE (broke down in Canada) and P.O.D. (broke down in Oklahoma)..
