And finally, a review: THE BLAMED / CRIMSON THORN / INNER SANCTION, The New Union, Minneapolis, MN, Fri Oct 13 I love Minnesota!! Minneapolis is the coolest place to be, and I don't necessarily mean the temperatures! Where else can you go to a mall with an amusement park (with roller coaster!) in the middle of it, almost be in Africa while nearing falling off a tall building, and hang out with Darrik all in less than a week! And that's not even describing the concert - I mean only in fun-lovin' Minneapolis could you have an industrial band, a grindcore band and a hardcore band all on one ball at a club across the street from a golf course! So you won't think I'm making anything up I'll elaborate further on one of the most unusual triple bills I've ever known. First up - INNER SANCTION, a local industrial 4-piece with the bad habit of destroying mike stands and guitars (calm down, DJ!); nonetheless, they're a great band with potential of establishing themselves in the heavy industrial realm only if they were to shy away from creating tunes too similar to one another. Granted, the last tune was a radical departure - a punk song? Second up - CRIMSON THORN, the Midwest's heaviest band hands down. Playing stuff off their newly re-released CD on R.E.X. Records, "Unearthed" (did they have to change "Asphyxiated"?), they got my attention with some awesome new tunes, especially "Dissection" - oh, what a fantastic work of grindcore! They've grown as musicians while not watering down their blistering speed and suffocating heavy rhythms. Third and last up - THE BLAMED, southern California hardcore punk. Well, this might be a stretch for me to say, but I didn't find them too bad after all - in fact, they seemed better than Cornerstone. The new stuff changes.. well, more than I thought I would. Dudes, it's no use! I'm into metal, not punk, but I appreciate growing talent when I hear it, even if it's out of my sphere. I am glad for the awesome time I had in Minnesota - the things I saw, the clay targets I blasted (you had to be there), and the unusual combination of bands I buddied around with. Oofta!! * End of Review * Next week, some big surprises with ARGYLE PARK, HAVEN (huh? That old band??), and a former secular band reuniting??!! * End of Soae * Get GROMS if you have to go to Norway to find it!!!!
