                        ®A Great Loss¯

        Here we are at the begining of a new year, and we have already had
 a tragic loss. The loss of wich I am talking about is of coarse the 
 author of Calvin and Hobbes Bill Waterson has decided to retire.
        Why this man would decide to do this I do not know. What I do
 know is that Calvin and Hobbes have been replaced by some other cheesier
 comic. Why that keeps on happening I have no clue, and if you don't 
 know what I am talking about I will ask just one question... Rember The 
 Farside? The Farside was a comic written by Gary Larson. When The Farside 
 was ended it was replaced by Close to Home. Now tell me do you really
 think that Close to home was reallt a good subistute to The Farside.
 I think NOT. 
        I don't know what depresses me more. The loss of Calvin and Hobbes,
 or the comic that they have chosen to replace it. I mean come on man stop 
 ruining the comic section of the newspaper. I feel that the comic section 
 is the best section of the paper, but my opion of the comics section is
 degradeing with each new replacement.
        The worst thing about this Calvin and Hobbes thing is that it 
 keeps on getting slamed in your face. I mean do they really have to
 make an anoucement on the news about this every ten seconds. I mean 
 come on fellas let it rest. 
        I also didn't like the way that Watterson ended his strip. 
 He just left you haning. When the series OUTLAND was taken out of 
 the comics Berke at least gave it a definate ending. 
        I also think that Watterson didn't think of those who depend on 
 Calvin and Hobbes to help them start the day, and what about those people
 whose only hope would be the next Calvin and Hobbes. I mean some people
 have nothing to look forward to other than the next Calvin and Hobbes.
 I mean those people will now probibly go into a deep depresion and kill
 themselves. Fortunatly I am not one of thoes people, and I have other
 things to get depressed over like my girl leaving. 
        So anyway I hope that this loss dosen't take a big toll on any of
 you readers out there. If it does I hope you can get through this one.
