This time I even thought of something to talk about. It's something that we all are going through or have in the past. School. I personally hate it and feel it's a waste of time. Today I would like to point out why I feel that way and share my opinions. School is pointless. Do you actually learn anything?? You might learn a little but the way it's setup is not great for learning. I see school as more of a social place then a place of learning. If I want to learn about something I learn on my own by going to the library or on the internet. There I can get information on anything I want to learn about and actually learn about it. In school we are forced into learning some subjects, many of which will never help us in life and most of us aren't at all interested in. I could read through my psychology book for an hour and not even remember one word of what I read. But if I take out a book about something I'm interested in and want to learn about from the library I could read it and remember everything that was important and even many things that aren't. My point is that I absorb a lot more of what I read when I'm not forced into it and I'm interested in it. Grades. What do they mean? People say I got all A's. I'm smart. Or my grades are better then yours, I'm smarter then you. That's pure stupidity. What are grades? Where do they come from? What are they based on? From every teacher they are based on different things. Some teachers are harder and give out lower grades and some give out almost all A's. So why is it that colleges look at your grades to see how you qualify. Your grades mean nothing anyway. They don't know if you had hard or easy teachers. Even if you have easy teachers you might get all F's. What does that mean? Are you stupid? Maybe...But probably not. Grades are a measure of what your teacher rates you on their own personal grading system. That system doesn't have to be mathametical based on your test scores or whatever. It could be based partly on what your teacher thinks of you (and very often your test grades are based partly on what your teacher thinks of you). I remember having an english teacher who really didn't like me. He would find every little error on an essay and always give me F's. He would complain about my handwriting and he was just a real asshole. But to other people he gave them A's and B's and they basically did the same types of things I did. It was just that he liked them better then he liked me. Usually a grade has a lot to do with how hard you try. Even if you try hard you still could fail because your not interested or the teacher doesn't like you or something like that but usually your grade is higher if you try harder. But why bother? I don't want to learn these stupid things that I learn in school. I don't want to be forced into learning dumb things and then being tested on them. Why should anyone bother learning something that they aren't interested in and will never use in life. I say they shouldn't bother. The only reason I do any work is so I can go away to college. I usually keep around a C average. Sometimes it's lower and sometimes it's higher. I just want to be able to go to college and don't want to stay in school any longer then I have to so I do some work even though I think It's so stupid. Most teachers have a large amount of your grade based on test scores. What are test scores based on? How hard you tried? Not really. There have been studies done giving teachers exact tests and essays to grade but the names on the essays and tests were sometimes names of male people and sometimes female. It was shown that some teachers give higher grades to men and some give higher grades to women. After all this corruption in the system where your test grades mean nothing and your grades that are based on that means nothing what is the point of colleges basing so much on that? I think that's sort of dumb. One last thing that I want to mention is that supposobly the reason we go to school is to learn (although I feel the real reason you go to highschool is so you can go to college.) Certain people in schools are not trusted and not allowed to do things that others are. For example I take a class called High Tech 2. It's basically computer repair. The only problem is they don't trust me and don't allow me to use the computers. Seriouslly I have no idea why. My only guess is because I know a lot about computers and my knowledge scares them. I don't know why. Normally I would never do anything to harm the computers. Now that they are not allowing me to touch the computers adventually I might end up doing something because I'm not allowed to. Anyway I'm in a class where you are supposed to learn how to repair computers. Everyone else in the class gets to work with computers and repair computers. Everyone else can ask questions and get answers. If I try asking a question I am very commonly ignored. Now my question is, I go to school to learn right?? Then why I'm not allowed to use things that will help me learn? Why am I not allowed to ask questions?? How in the world am I supposed to learn anything. And then the stupid thing is I get yelled at for not doing anything. What am I supposed to be doing? Basically my points are that grades mean nothing, school is pointless, and your not going to learn much. If you want to learn about a subject don't take a class on it. Go to the library and take out a book. Read the book and try whatever you have to try on your own. You'll learn a lot more by reading one book then you'll probably learn in a year of school.
