Quotable Quotes ##################################### RELATIONSHIPS. Love. Infatuation. Long-term friendship. How does one know what one has, or even wants. In relationships both straight and gay, making the right move at the right time has to be the most complex science imaginable. Some folks know how to manage this better than others. One acquaintance said that the less he worries about it, the more girls he has. But if he begins to fret about settling down, or chasing this one or that one, then he has more complications and heartache. So it is a complicated game. But nowadays, more and more folks are single. People are lonely, and seem to want the comfort of a long-term relationship. This is a worthy goal, and should not be despaired of in today's world. There should be classes taught in this in schools, as it is at least as complex as mathematics or science. Relationship building requires thought, planning, experimentation, trial and error, formulas, etc. Perhaps there are in some community colleges. But, as more and more of us are single, alone against the world, and all that, an emphasis on building rewarding relationships (both gay and hetero) cannot hurt in today's world. All we really have is each other. Let's be good to each other, and work together to build better relationships. It is a new world, and may require new solutions in the area of relationships. Robert Heinlein once wrote a sci-fiction story in which there were a wide variety of marriages on a planet that had been recently colonized. There were two-women-and one man marriages or partnerships; three-male ones; two-woman-two-man ones, etc. And in the reality that comprised life on that planet, it worked for them - it was okay. That is where the culture was at, and it worked. Our culture is changing, and so we must find novel solutions to partnering up, and thus fight off the ever-present spectre of loneliness. Balancing morality with reality has always been a tricky business, but frankly, we don't have any choice given our natures. ########################################################### SUBMISSIONS Tasmanian Roulette Life is a lottery with death as the prize. Order is needed for understanding. When the rules are broken, emotions are intensified. It is difficult to come to terms with unwelcome variety. - Stan Wotring (worrin19@nfi.com) We copy when we become bored; We resist when we become Afraid; We create when we become Stimulated; We change when we become Secure; We love when we become Loved. - Mother (Des Moines County) THE NEW FACIST RIGHT The wackos of Waco were real, And the radicals at Ruby Ridge: A fungus on our body politic -- Like something too long in the fridge. Now Montana's new contribution Is really no big surprise. Religious fanatics and gun nuts Adopt many such a disguise. The Republican "so called" revolution Signalled a sharp turn to the right -- Wierdos crawled out of the woodwork And began to arm for a fight. Conciliatory hearings in Congress, On Waco and Ruby Ridge, Had sent an unfortunate message: The constitution is yours to abridge. Since terrorism's your main game, If we observe it, we'll wink... Like the Allies confronting Hitler, we'll blink. The same word with different meanings Is common in English, I guess -- Too, To, and two are examples -- but none have made quite such a mess As the badly maligned word "right." Conservative is one synonym For its "political" definition -- Fanatics intone it like a hymn. It's a shame to pervert a good word, But the damage will last ages long. Curses will mark the word's use -- "Right" will mean totally wrong. (c) 1996 Jim Dunlap Life's A Beach with You Soft thoughts of him, The wispy hair, the cuddly shape, Color, style, surface tension, eyes Vapors of thinner make me dizzy I try to balance on the ladder, paintbrush sandpaper, cardboard, consciousness of the fact work must go on Still past remembrances invade raise the blood pressure, give one a perverse sort of hope. If that could happen once, perhaps it will happen again. So it is worth going on bravely until the next weekend. The next memory-etch-- The next wave-crest in Life's surging ocean of sex and emotion. - The Dream Queen ############################################ ####################################### QUOTABLE QUOTES In every human heart are a tiger, a pig, an ass and a nightingale. Diversity of character is due to their unequal activity. - Ambrose Bierce Life is the art of drawing sufficient conclusions from insufficient premises. - Samuel Butler We don't know one millionth of one percent about anything. - Thomas Edison ********************************************* Thanks for reading this.
