*Kudzu* Writers Guidelines =========================================================================== *Kudzu* is a digital quarterly magazine dedicated to bringing you the best in fiction, poetry, and essays. We strive to present fresh and original works that challenge us and our readers to think about the world, each other, and ourselves. Kudzu is electronically published quarterly (spring, summer, fall, winter) in three formats (access info is below): Adobe Acrobat PDF format Webzine (WWW HTML format) ACSII text-only Kudzu issue #1 is available NOW at What we're looking for... --------------------------------------------------------------------------- First of all, in whatever genre, we look for good, solid, professional writing. That you've published a kazillion poems and short stories---or never submitted your work for publication---matters not; what matters is that you've written it well. *Kudzu* accepts submissions from anyone and does not discriminate on any basis other than an admittedly subjective review of the work, not the author. FICTION: short fiction (we do plan to publish some longer works, but we're primarily interested in 5,000 to 7,500 words or less) that is written well and tells a good story. As far as subject matter goes, we're pretty open, we just want to see solid, compelling stories. We're also interested in Hyperfiction, but for the web version only, it's hard to implement in the other two versions (Acrobat PDF and ASCII text-only) without compromising the story. We cannot publish works that use copyrighted characters or material ("fan fiction," it's usually called). POETRY: It's said that more people write poetry than read it. Show us that you read and know and love poetry as well as write. Though we gladly accept free verse, we're particularly fond of good poetry written in traditional forms, though subject matter is completely open. ESSAYS: With essays, we're primarily looking for strong writing that makes us (and our readers) think about the subject. Personal essays, travelogues, humor, cultural or social commentary, as long as it's good. We discourage religious or political essays. How to submit --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Submissions to *Kudzu* should be sent to the magazine via Internet email. Files should be either plain ASCII sent in the body of the email message. Macintosh users may send submissions as binhexed Macintosh word processor files. For long pieces (over 7500 words or so), send a quick query with an outline or description and some sample paragraphs (so we can get an idea of the style) before sending the entire piece.
