Anne@mrsalphabet.com Ii Activities: Alphabet Animal Sound game By Mrs. Alphabet: Letter i Inch like an inchworm slowly on the ground Inching around not making a sound. Hear the i sound in my name Play the i sound animal game. Measure various items using inches: pencil, crayon, unifix cubes, pattern blocks, yarn, etc. Interview 6 people and ask them this question: Are you afraid of insects? Show your results. Describe an insect then illustrate the insect. Answer this question and explain your answer: Would you rather be inside or outside? Fill in the blanks: If I lived in an igloo I would need ____________, _______________, and _______________. Use your imagination and invent something to share with the class. Estimate how long it takes for an ice cube to melt! Brainstorm ways that we use ice! Make flavored ice cubes or ice pops! Cut out scoops of ice cream have children color and create an ice cream flavor graph! Visit http://www.benjerry.com for some ice cream treats. Create class I charts and place child's name at the end of his/her sentence: I am _______I can _____ I like_______ I want_________ I find____________ I go__________ etc. Talk about an island create a K(what I know)-W(what I want to know)-L(what I have learned) chart. If I lived on an island I would ___________ but I wouldn't ________________. Sing and or listen to an Irish song. Find Ireland on the map. Keep a journal about your observations. List names that begin with I and talk about what you see or hear. Sort objects by the short or long sound of the Ii. Make 2 columns and use a picture to represent the sound and brainstorm words to go in each column. Talk about what you notice about the words. Check names in the class for Ii sounds. Make a graph of children that have the Ii sound in their name. Read a poem and have children color code all the Ii words. Game: Echo Checko By Mrs. Alphabet Objective: Child echoes whatever teacher says Materials: Chart Procedure: Teacher points to a chart and produces a letter sound and children echo the sound she has made. Variations: Use for letter recognition, blends, digraphs, long vowels, clusters, number patterns, or sentences. Echo Checko Everyone get ready Everyone get set Time to echo letters Sounds of the alphabet. First I'll say the letter sound clearly Then you'll echo It back to me. Echo checko You're super and great This class really rates, (make check mark in the air) Alpha-NameFreeze By Mrs. Alphabet Objective: Children identify names by the first letter. Materials: Music/and or instrument, letters of the alphabet Procedure: Teacher places letters randomly around the room. When teacher stops the music children have to freeze on a letter and say a name that begins with that letter. Teacher models. Variations: Use animal names. Make up silly names. Teach the song to introduce the game. Alpha Name Freeze Sung To: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Let's play Alpha Name Freeze Use first names please! When you stop on a letter Say a name that goes together. Matching the letter and the sound Shows the link has been found .
