The disease is serious and communicable, and has caused several fatalities among the local population and among health care workers. Zairian authorities have moved to quarantine infected persons, and travel to and from the area may be restricted. In addition, there is an ongoing outbreak of bloody diarrhea which has also caused several deaths. Until the level of public health threat is better known, and the fever more clearly identified, any individuals planning on traveling to or near the specified area should consider postponing such travel. The U.S. Embassy will monitor further developments in the situation and communicate them as they become available. ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- The "travel-advisories@stolaf.edu" mailing list is the official Internet and BITNET distribution point for the U.S. State Department Travel Warnings and Consular Information Sheets.
