STATEMENT BY MICHAEL McCURRY, SPOKESMAN
 THREAT TO AMERICANS IN SOMALIA, KENYA AND UGANDA

Threats to kidnap American citizens have been made by persons 
associated with Somali warlord Aideed.  American citizens in Somalia 
have been warned of this threat.  Americans traveling in Kenya and 
Uganda may also be at risk.

U.S. citizens traveling or residing in Kenya or Uganda should be 
aware of this threat, and be alert to their surroundings, avoid 
setting patterns of predictable, routine behavior, and report any 
suspicious activity to local authorities.  U.S. citizens planning to 
travel to or currently residing in Somalia should read the 
Department of State's Travel Warning on Somalia.
