The situation in Moscow is tense and changing rapidly. A state of emergency was declared October 3. A curfew has been declared from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM in Moscow. While there has been gunfire and disturbances at various points around the city, most of the violence has occurred in the vicinity of the Russian "White House." The number of Russian casualties may be large. There have been no reports of anti-American demonstrations or threats to Americans; however, anti-American sentiment does exist. Moscow's airport is reportedly open and functioning. There is no indication that air travel into or out of Moscow has been interrupted. The U.S. Embassy is advising Americans in Moscow to stay indoors and to monitor the news media. A U.S. citizen information center has been established at the Radisson Slavjanlkaya Hotel.
