A new ruling council has indicated its desire to restore a civilian democratic government as early as possible. The population of Niger remains calm and the security situation is returning to normal. There is a curfew from 9:00 PM to 5:30 AM in Niamey. The U.S. Embassy in Niamey reports that all U.S. citizens are safe and has advised them to obey curfew regulations. Niger's international airport is open. This Public Announcement will expire on February 20, 1996.
