CONVICTION OF SHEIKH OMAR ABDEL RAHMAN - PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

 For Immediate Release

Given the recent conviction in New York of Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman 
and nine others on terrorism charges, the Department advises 
Americans traveling abroad that there may be an increased risk of 
terrorist incidents carried out by supporters of these individuals 
against American interests.  United States government installations 
abroad have been instructed to increase their security precautions.  
American citizens traveling abroad should pay close attention to 
their personal security practices overseas in light of the potential 
threat.
