Tourist facilities are widely available. Entry Requirements: For information concerning entry requirements for Luxembourg, travelers can contact the Embassy of Luxembourg at 2200 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20008, tel (202) 265-4171, or the Luxembourg Consulates General in New York or San Francisco. Medical Facilities: Medical facilities are widely available. U.S. medical insurance is not always valid outside the United States. Travelers have found that in some cases, supplemental medical insurance with specific overseas coverage has proved to be useful. Information on specific health matters is available through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) hotline for international travelers at (404) 332-4559 or visit the CDC home page on the Internet at http://www.cdc.gov. Crime Information: Luxembourg has a low crime rate. However, during the tourist season, pickpocketing, theft of unattended baggage, and theft from vehicles can occur. U.S. citizens can refer to the Department of State's pamphlet "A Safe Trip Abroad" for ways to enjoy a more trouble-free voyage. The pamphlet is available from the Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, D.C. 20402. Drug Penalties: Penalties for possession, use, and dealing in illegal drugs are strict, and convicted offenders can expect jail sentences and fines. Road Conditions/Safety: Luxembourg has a modern, well-maintained system of highways and secondary roads. In mountainous areas, winding roads and cyclists sometimes slow traffic, and roads can be congested during rush hour in the Luxembourg city environs. Visitors should drive defensively in high volume commuter and tourist traffic, or during winter fog and ice. Registration and Embassy Location: Americans are encouraged to register with the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy to obtain updated information on travel and security within the area. The Embassy is located at 22 Boulevard Emmanuel-Servais in Luxembourg City, telephone (352) 46-01-23. No. 97-021 This replaces the Consular Information Sheet dated October 18, 1995, to update the section on entry requirements and to add road conditions and Internet information. ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- The "travel-advisories@stolaf.edu" mailing list is the official Internet and BITNET distribution point for the U.S. State Department Travel Warnings and Consular Information Sheets.
