ANNIVERSARY OF HEBRON MASSACRE - Public Announcement
 February 13, 1995

For Immediate Release

February 14, 1995, will be the anniversary, according to the 
Islamic calendar, of the tomb of the Patriarchs/Ibrahimi mosque 
shootings in Hebron.  The U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem 
advises all U.S. citizens to exercise extreme caution when traveling 
in East Jerusalem or the West Bank on this day.  Demonstrations or 
riots may start without prior notice.  Travel to the West Bank 
should be limited to pressing business only.

Although the Hebron shootings occurred on February 25, 1994, the 
Islamic community in the Occupied Territories will observe the 
anniversary which will make the anniversary eleven days earlier.  
The Consulate General in Jerusalem noted that the entire time period 
between the 14th and the 25th of February may see increased tension 
and protest demonstrations.
