STATEMENT BY CHRISTINE SHELLY, ACTING SPOKESMAN

GABON

The U.S. Embassy in Libreville has activated its warden system 
advising American citizens to stay indoors and avoid travel in 
Gabon.  There have been problems in the wake of the Presidential 
election including demonstrations, rioting, looting, and other 
violent incidents in Libreville, Oyen, and other places.  Schools 
and businesses have been closed.  Travel in Libreville may be 
restricted as security forces search cars and monitor movements.  
The security presence is also high in other cities and towns.
