For Immediate Release

Santo Domingo  has experienced civil unrest in some areas of the 
city since
March 20.  Demonstrations at the National University, the 
Universidad Autonima de Santo Domingo (UASD), resulted in the 
burning of several vehicles and spread through the poorer areas of 
the city, particularly north and east of the city.  Skirmishes 
between police and protestors have resulted in injuries and deaths.  
U.S. citizens visiting Santo Domingo should be aware of the 
potential for violence, avoid entering poorer neighborhoods 
especially north and east of the city, avoid crowds, and avoid the 
National University campus.
