Demonstrations at the National University, the Universidad Autonima de Santo Domingo (UASD), resulted in the burning of several vehicles and spread through the poorer areas of the city, particularly north and east of the city. Skirmishes between police and protestors have resulted in injuries and deaths. U.S. citizens visiting Santo Domingo should be aware of the potential for violence, avoid entering poorer neighborhoods especially north and east of the city, avoid crowds, and avoid the National University campus. ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- The "travel-advisories@stolaf.edu" mailing list is the official Internet and BITNET distribution point for the U.S. State Department Travel Warnings and Consular Information Sheets.
