Return-Path: To: cfctech!sharkey!world.std.com!bzs@sharkey.cc.umich.edu Subject: Stock data Organization: TMC & Associates, Troy, MI Date: Thu, 27 Dec 90 22:54:05 EST From: wayne@teemc.tmc.mi.org First batch: xaa-xap unshar each mail message cat xa[a-p] > stox.Z.uu uudecode stox.Z.uu uncompress stox.Z /\/\ \/\/ DATA FILE FORMAT - Each field in the data file is seperated by a single . There should be no spaces anywhere in the file nor double s (ie do NOT line up columns of data). - Hi/Lo/Last are always to 3 decimal places - Volume is actual volume (ie, not in 100's) - One datapoint per line. - Order is insignificant (that's what sort is for). - Type is single character following symbol and preceded by an underscore: B ond F uture I ndex M utual fund O ption S tock Example: Symbol Date Last High Low Volume (No headers in files) IBM_S 890908 116.000 116.375 115.000 1173400 Rationale: This lets us grep for whatever we need. Also, data can be stored in any files and sorted and extracted as needed. Mutual Funds: Hi, low and last should be the same since these figures are generally not available. Volume should contain 0 as a placeholder (unless you have access to the actual volume). SYMBOLS I am also trying to get a list of the available stocks and their symbols. If possible, please include a seperate file with the symbol followed by a tab and the actual name of the company: Example: F Ford Motor Company This allows people who do not have access to a XREF service to look up the information.
