Permission is explicitly granted for any non-commerical use of this material without restriction, and in any form required by the user, provided that appropriate notice is given of its copyright status. Quick Reference Guide 1 USING THE DIPLOMAT TEXT UTILITIES First: Make a new directory called BIOWULF. IMPORTANT: Please name your new directory BIOWULF. All of the programs in the utility package have the name BIOWULF in the path. - Transfer the ASCII files to the new directory. - Transfer the utilities package to the new directory. - Execute the Self-Exploding Software package DIPLOMAT.EXE. Then write: Command line Description DCOD BEO1.EDN Decodes the TEI encoded Master Text. DCOD first calls the ENTITY table (BEO.ENT), then the TEI endcoded Master Text (BEO1.EDN), e.g.DCOD BEO BEO1 will decode BEO1.EDN according to BEO.ENT and produce BEO1.MST. *MAKEECT FILENAME.SRC Create the Edition ConTrol file. The output file has the extension .ECT. INPUT FILENAME OUTPUT FILENAME EDITION NAME MANU.SRC MANU.ECT MANUscript DOE.SRC DOE.ECT DOE KLAEBER.SRC KLAEBER.ECT KLAEBER THA.SRC THA.ECT THorkelin A ZUP.SRC ZUP.ECT ZUPitza-Davis * You do not have to perform this step as the five .ECT files are included in the DIPLOMAT.EXE compressed file. However, if you make any changes to the Edition ConTrol SouRCe file (FILENAME.SRC), you will have to make a new ECT. (See ECTTOTXT). EXTRACT FILENAME Enter one or more edition names separated by a space, e.g. EXTRACT THA ZUP. Two editions will be regenerated: Thorkelin A and Zupitza. You may extract all five editions at once by writing: EXTRACT MANU DOE KLAEBER THA ZUP The OUTput is FILENAME.OUT. The edition texts are now ready to be transferred to your TEXT editor. Quick Reference Guide 2 NOTE: If you intend to work with e-texts -- either to use or to create new ones -- you probably should import a text editor from an FTP site. While it is safer to use a TEXT editor, you may use Word or WordPerfect, for example, but be sure to save the files in TEXT mode. If you use Windows, be careful not to use Word or WordPerfect for Windows, instead choose the icon for normal Word, etc. Windows operates only in graphic mode and will not display the screen fonts. Command line Description FNTLOAD EDITIONNAME Loads an EGA/VGA Text Screen Font named in the Edition ConTrol file. To return to normal screen mode, either write MODE CO80 or FNTLOAD (without an Edition name). PRNTLAS EDITIONNAME Downloads the printer font named in the Edition ConTrol file to an HP Laser II compatible printer, then sends the edition output file to the printer. ENCOD BEO FILENAME.OUT Converts a text back to e-mailable format. Output is FILENAME.EDN, e.g. ENCOD BEO THA.OUT will encode THA.OUT according to BEO.ENT and produce THA.EDN. ECTTOTXT asks for an ECT Converts an *.ECT file to an Edition Source file name and file for editing. request an output file name, e.g. DOE.SRC Any changes you may wish to make to the Edition Control File should be made through the SouRCe files. ENTITY definitions, abbreviations and decimal equivalents may be found on pages 3-4 of this guide. After you have made the desired changes, you must make a new ECT by running the MAKEECT compiler. The following example is the ECT Source file for DOE. Explanatory comments are written within a pair of angle brackets.
