2026-09-14 Tomorrow we're leaving for a short trip ================================================== I think I finished rewriting Oddμ. Just in time! 😅 This is the software that I use for a bunch of sites including this one. It now uses a SQLite database for a lot of stuff. Most importantly, it uses the full-text search that SQLite offers instead of grepping through the Markdown files. There's now a branch that passes the tests, at least. 😂 But it's a start! And since it's 0:30 and we're leaving for Slovenia tomorrow (today?), it's time for bed and I'm not going to test for any more bugs. The branch isn't merged, yet, so there's time for things to settle (not sure how that'll work in my absence but I like to think that some part of my brain keeps thinking about this). Speaking more generally, working on code like that seems to be my litany against fear. It keeps my mind and my hands busy as deadlines loom and to stop and think would just make me very nervous without much I can do about it. The suitcase is packed. The todo list is ready. I really don't like travel. And today my wife tells me that she's nervous, too! It didn't use to be like that. When we were twenty I used to say we just need a passport and a credit card and everything else we can buy! But now we're over fifty and the planes make us nervous, the airports make us nervous, the car rental, the streets, the traffic, other people, everything. Once we're there, wherever it is, this passes. But the two or three days before leaving are the worst part of the holidays, now. Me being unable to finish this post is indication of the problem. #Life
